Product Pros and Cons
Lovely and soft whilst still maintaining that farmyard look. The smell was a little alarming at first but I stopped noticing it after the first few days. Not sure is it's a pro or a con, but wow, the 100 ltr bag is big! Not a problem if you have somewhere dry to store it and someone to help get it in and out the car and down the garden. If not, the smaller 50 ltr bag would be more advisable, although a little more expensive per ltr.
It's very compressed into the bag, but very easy to extract how much you need.
Conclusion
I wanted an alternative to straw in the nest boxes, having been concerned that I might be introducing red mite to the coop, and a potential impacted crop hazard. This has ticked all the boxes – cost, ease of use, appearance and endurance.
During the trial, the Dengie was added to the nest box area of the coop. The hens didn't seem to notice (or appreciate!) the change, and continued laying. The large 100 ltr bag is going to last me months – I've hardly dented the bag, despite having used for 3 changes in two nest boxes, and I have the peace of mind I needed.
I will definitely be recommending Dengie, and will, without a doubt, purchase in future.
