Your first thoughts of the product:

I received a voucher for a 100 litre bale of Dengie Fresh Bed straw for me to review it - interest declared!
I always use chopped and dust extracted straw for my hens and normally pay about £7.50 for it. This straw is priced £11.95 at my local feed store.

Features at a glance:

It says on the packaging that it has "pine oil for natural anti-bacterial and anti-fungal action/helps your chickens to feel warm and cost/supporting the BHWT".

The Trial

Product Pros and Cons

When you open the packaging you immediately smell the pleasant scent of it. It feels soft to the touch (some are quite harsh) so is gentle for your chickens. It is very pleasant to use when replacing or replenishing the bedding. Easy to pick out the chicken poo to keep the indoor areas of the coop clean - I put straw throughout for insulation and comfort although extra thickness in the nesting box.

Conclusion

How do you feel about the product? Would you use the product again? Good for your money? Makes life easier? Would you recommend it to others? (please include photos before, during and end of trial periods)

Even though it is dearer than the ordinary chopped straw, I shall definitely be using Dengie Fresh Bed in future. There is a bonus that a contribution is made to the British Hen Welfare Trust from whom we buy and re-home our ex battery chickens - it is for sale on their website also. The product even displays the Royal Warrant so it is fit for the Queen! I would recommend.
